Using custom fields in a template image and maps is a relatively straight forward and simple process.
Custom fields are added or modified in the LetterMark design area using the custom fields link in the left side navigation bar.
Note: In the LetterMark 5 system, there are only two types of custom variables, Company variables and User variables.
When adding a custom field, also added is a variable of the same type. For instance, if you add a new custom field named 'LinkedInUrl' as a user custom field, then there will be a new variable to use named User:LinkedInUrl to use.
Likewise, if you were to add a company custom field named NewsLinkHeader an associated variable named Company:NewsLinkHeader would be available for use throughout the system.
One example of using custom fields is to provide an easy to update news link and headline in template headers. By using two custom company custom fields, it is relatively easy to update template images with a link and headline that can be changed often without needing to change the graphics themselves.
To do this, you would add two custom fields to your company. For this example, we would add two company custom fields. The first field will be used to hold the headline text, this is the text that will appear on the image when shown in the template. For this you would create a custom field named NewsHeadlineText, and set the value of the field to the text you want to display in the image. A good example would be some current news information such as "LetterMark 6 supports more email clients!". In the template image, you would use the associated {Company:NewsHeadlineText} to display the text.
Next, you would add a second custom field to hold the URL which links to the page describing the headline item or press release. For this, a name for the field of something like NewsHeadlineURL would be appropriate, which would result in an associated variable named Company:NewsHeadlineURL and point it to your press release. After you've added this custom variable you would use it in the Image Map rather than hard coding the URL to the press release by using <Company:NewsHeadlineURL>
